KCA DEUTAG has 10 mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs) under management. The company wholly owns three cantilever jack-up rigs - the Ben Avon, Ben Loyal and Ben Rinnes, rated at 250ft, 300ft and 350ft water depth respectively. The Ben Loyal is currently contracted to PEMEX in the Gulf of Mexico. The Ben Rinnes is contracted to CABGOC in offshore Angola. The Ben Avon commenced a contract in offshore Gabon

For those who are after a first start the entry level starting position is a Roustabout. A Roustabout is responsible for carrying out general housekeeping and material handling operations for the drilling rig or platform. This is performed until sufficient experience and competence has been gained in the job and the person is classified as a Greenhand and the term is used to ensure that new entrants are placed with experienced crews who can mentor the person. The Greenhand intakes with KCE Deutag usually happen about three to four times per year, as and when required by operations.

Essential New Start Requirements

Must be 18 years or more to work offshore

Must be eligible to work in the UK

Must have a valid passport

Must hold a valid BOSIET certificate (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training)

Must pass the interview. A detailed CV with qualifications and experience etc, don’t expect an interview if it’s all bad spelling and unintelligible. Your career starts or fails on the CV, so spend time as you have one chance to impress someone, make it good.

Desirable Requirements

Preference is given to candidates already holding Greenhand Certification. This is a five-day course run by various training providers which covers such topics as Introduction to Drilling Operations, Working Safely, Manual Handling, COSHH, Working at Heights, Helicopter & Helideck Safety and Banksman and Slinging. This course helps candidates gain an awareness of the lifestyle and duties associated with working offshore.

For the Interview

They will need to see your most relevant training certification (i.e. if Crane Operator, a copy of crane certification, if electrician, a copy of trade or apprenticeship papers) together with a copy of your passport.

They would expect you to come to the interview fully prepared and ready to talk through your CV/Resume which will include your experiences, interests and expectations.
