I have just completed my cadetship as an Engineer officer of the watch and I would like to make the transaction to working on offshore rigs. I have completed my cadetship and passed my officer of the watch exam first time and passed my HNC and HND both with grade as. Anyway long story short what position am I best to for fill offshore? Also does merchant navy medical first aid, fire fighting certs hold any weight when applying offshore? I don’t know if you are familiar with the British merchant navy training scheme but any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER - To be blunt you need some experience, ideally get some DP vessel experience on anything you can offshore, presumably as a Junior engineer any level and start working your way up, there is no short cut here and its all about sea time,
