Radio operator job wanted

by b.hammond
(Canada)

I'm taking the radio operator course (GMDSS).

Can you tell me 2 things about radio operators for off-shore rigs.....
-what is monthly wage for this position?
-how difficult is it to find openings for this job? I'm guessing there are only 1 or 2 required per rig.
ANSWER - Wages, dont know and dont care thats for you to work out with an employer. How easy? its very very hard and in fact many rids and virtually no ships have a radio operator as its all satellite and bad news is for you is every marine officer has a GMDSS ticket as well, they dont need an RO to use a phone. Technology has made the position nearly but not quite non existent
