Rig Electrician

by JD
(Alabama)

Hello, I am a journyman electrician ,IBEW apprenticeship. I have worked the last 20 years in industrial maintenance in a manufacturing plant. Like many others, I face job threats(layoffs, plant closeures). I was considering an oil rig job because if I loose my job I will have to travel for work anyway. My age is 46, male in good health. What factor would age be? Is it posible to work part-time. What I mean is, if I took a short leave of absence from my current job to work on a rig to gain experence and see if it is the job for me. One more thing, what is the average pay rate for rig electricians and how much overtime is normaly available. Thanks
